Berber cuisine, by reservation

Since 2018, A table in Tifoultoute

Here, dinner takes its time.

La Table du Berbère is a small restaurant at Riad Chay, in the douar of Tifoultoute, ten minutes from the centre of Ouarzazate. We opened in 2018 and we cook one thing: the food of this region, the way it is cooked at home.

Tagines simmer in clay. Couscous is rolled by hand. The vegetables come from the garden behind the house. Chef Jasmin writes a menu for the evening, and you choose your starter, your main and your dessert from it.

  • Opened in 2018
  • Moroccan and Berber cuisine only

The evening

Atmosphere
of a night in Ouarzazate

Inside, between stone and lanterns. Outside on the patio under the parasols, or on the roof when the heat goes.

The evening

An evening at the table

You arrive as the light goes orange on the walls. Someone brings mint tea. The tagine has been cooking for an hour already.

  1. Arriving

    01 Step

    Arriving

Dinner starts at 6 pm. If you have ordered ahead, the kitchen has been working since the afternoon. If not, allow about an hour and a half: it is slow food, cooked to order.

  2. The table

    02 Step

    The table

White linen, a striped Berber blanket across the end of the table, a clay vase, candles once the sun is down. Water comes in a basket-covered bottle, tea in a silver pot.

  3. The plates

    03 Step

    The plates

Salads and briouates first. Then the tagine arrives still covered, and the lid comes off at the table. Couscous is served from a painted dish. Dessert is oranges with cinnamon, or pastries.

  4. After

    04 Step

    After

Stay for the tea. Go up to the roof if the night is clear. Nobody will hurry you.
