La Table du BerbèreBerber cuisine, Ouarzazate

The evening

The evening

You arrive as the light goes orange on the walls. Someone brings mint tea. The tagine has been cooking for an hour already.

An evening at the table

  1. Arriving

    01 Step

    Arriving

Dinner starts at 6 pm. If you have ordered ahead, the kitchen has been working since the afternoon. If not, allow about an hour and a half: it is slow food, cooked to order.

  2. The table

    02 Step

    The table

White linen, a striped Berber blanket across the end of the table, a clay vase, candles once the sun is down. Water comes in a basket-covered bottle, tea in a silver pot.

  3. The plates

    03 Step

    The plates

Salads and briouates first. Then the tagine arrives still covered, and the lid comes off at the table. Couscous is served from a painted dish. Dessert is oranges with cinnamon, or pastries.

  4. After

    04 Step

    After

Stay for the tea. Go up to the roof if the night is clear. Nobody will hurry you.
